Ajji & Thatha Come to Visit

Ajji and Thata were happy to finally meet their granddaughter and they came at the perfect time as little K had just started smiling and making "happy noises". We had a great visit and were able to get out of the house quite a bit and enjoy the nice weather. It was also nice to have many, many home cooked dinners.

Stanford & Sonoma

Memorial Day Weekend was full of fun. On Sunday we spent the day down at Stanford as Ajji and Thata were excited to be enrolled in a "Grandparenting Class" at Stanford's Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. On Monday we drove up to Sonoma for a picnic at Benziger Winery. We heard from several friends (with kids) that Sonoma is very kid friendly and thought that we should check it out for ourselves. Since Ajji and Thata were still in town we loaded up the Civic and headed out. Supriya, Sridhar and Krishna met us at Benziger and we had a fabulous day filled with wine, cheese and chocolates.

K's First Graduation Party

Keira was super excited to go to her very first graduation party. Carlitos graduated from St. Francis High School on May 23rd. It's crazy to think that Naveen and I first met Carlitos when he was in 5th grade. It is even crazier to think that Carlitos will be 36 when Keira graduates from high school.

Cookies & Keira

Shortly after little K was born a special package arrived in the mail for her. This package contained all the materials we would need to make some very special cookies. Keira and I finally found a free afternoon to mix, roll, bake, frost and decorate.

The cookies were yummy and we had a great time with this first baking experience together. Thanks for being so thoughtful Beth!

Slings, M-Day, The Hood, and Chuck

We are still trying to figure out which sling little K likes the best. We were given many varieties to try out. So far mom likes the Hot Sling and dad is a fan of the Baby Bjorn. Once she gets a little older we have heard that the Ergo is a great choice so that your back doesn't hurt. As you can see from the pictures she barely fits in any of them yet, but she is a good eater so we figure she will grow into them soon enough.

Our first Mother's Day was a mellow one. We all slept in late and then dad made a yummy breakfast. We did venture out in the afternoon for tea and scones at Samovar. Keira was a good girl and slept through the whole excursion.

And... later on that week Chuck came into town. Once again Keria made us look good by sleeping through Happy Hour and Dinner (what a perfect baby!)

Not sure if Chuck even saw her big brown eyes this visit.

Hiking in Marin and Walkabout in SF

We're a bit backlogged these days, so this post was actually one for the weekend of May 16. This weekend reminded us of why we live in San Francisco. Amazing weather up and down the coast, coupled with hoards of crazies running from one end of the City to the other. This weekend San Francisco held one of it's most defining events, the annual running of Bay to Breakers, where a bunch of people get dressed up, drunk, and decide to run from one end of SF (bay) to the the other (breakers). Naturally, there are some that actually take the run seriously, these people typically don't live in the city. Most make a whole day (or weekend) event out of it and go crazy with preparations, costumes, and floats.

We decided to head up to Marin Saturday afternoon for Keira's first hike up by Muir Beach, followed up by an afternoon latte in the plaza at Mill Valley. We packed up the car with little miss hiker and one of her six carrying contraptions that we have accumulated (so far).

On Sunday we went for a long walk around the city:

We started out by walking over to the Lower Haight, where we saw droves of Bay 2 Breakers walking (or stumbling) back from their morning run (stumble) to the ocean. We then had brunch up in Cole Valley, walked up to Buena Vista Park, and back down through the Castro back home for an afternoon latte at our (newly discovered) next door bakery Thorough Bread.

Enjoy the pics below...

First Play Date w/Soraya

Keira was excited to have her very first play date. Glory and Soraya came up to the city for a fun filled afternoon. We went on a walk to the Lower Height and had a nice lunch at Cafe du Soleil. Although Soraya is only 7 weeks older than Keira, she certainly looks a lot bigger (and can hold her head up all on her own!) The moms enjoyed discussing all the joys of motherhood and the daughters napped... ate... and napped some more. Overall, a successful day. We will have to do it again soon.

we're just hangin' out

Keira & Friends

Our little girl has been lucky to have many, many visitors in the first month of her life. She is already so loved. Her parents have been lucky to have many, many visitors bringing coffee, smoothies, and food for the new (and tired) parents. Thank you to everyone for your love and support as we made it through this first month with a newborn.

First (mini) Road Trip

Even though the weather was rather nasty, Keira wasn't daunted and wanted more than ever to pack up the car for an afternoon drive up the coast...so who are we to dash her hopes. Process pushing Mom set an aggressive schedule for departure around 10am, and 3 hours later we were hitting the road. Overcast skies, fog, and misty rain persisted throughout the day giving it a cool and mellow mood. We stopped over in Pt. Reyes Station for burgers and beer, had our first side-of-the-road feeding and diaper change, and then headed down to the B-Game for dinner at the Bhat's after inviting ourselves over. Here are some pics from the day. Also see the bonus videos that I just found on my camera.

Garcias & Keira

Keira was excited to meet her Aunt Jessie, Uncle Brandon and Cousin Aiden. It was good for us to have some parenting experts here for a few days. Jessie and Brandon had lots of tips for taking an infant out of the house and helped us to feel more comfortable. Aiden was happy to finally meet this "baby" everyone has been talking about and was a great helper when Keira was crying or needed a diaper change. In fact, I think that he is ready for a little brother or sister of his own. :)
