Raising Awareness

We wanted to share a very special post with all of our family/friends.  A former Galapagos student chose OMS as the topic for a recent school assignment.  We were touched that she wanted to help raise awareness for such a rare disease.  What a special girl!

Thank you Oriana for all you have done and continue to do.  We feel lucky to know you!

OMS
By: Oriana

You might wonder what OMS is, well let me tell you. OMS stands for Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome. This is a condition that affects the movement of your body and spinal cord. It causes your body to start to shake. I came across a little patient about two years old that got diagnosed with OMS. She was extremely brave going through all those tests. It took about a year to go through numerous amount of tests, such as blood tests. We all supported her and told her to hang in there. We went on hikes to support her and fund raisers that raised money for OMS research. She had very encouraging parents to help her overcome this obstacle. The tests can be painful sometimes, but yet she still had the brightest smile and spirit in the entire hospital. She might have OMS for the rest of her life, but she still tries to have a smile. Never take your health for granted and be grateful that you are healthy. Find opportunities to help someone else. You can help by fund raising for OMS or other illness and be a active volunteer in a hospital. This little patient proved that you should never give up no matter how difficult the situation is and keep positive thoughts. Have you ever helped others for a good purpose?
