MRI

It's hard to believe it has already been six months since Keira's last MRI.

We're headed to LPCH early tomorrow morning so we would appreciate lots of prayers and happy thoughts for a clear scan.  Keira caught a cold a couple of weeks ago that turned into a double ear infection, but she's feeling much better and should be OK for the anesthesia tomorrow morning.

We spent some time talking about the day tomorrow and I think we have the important parts of the day covered.

1. Brown Bear will be coming with her for the MRI
2. Keira will get a blue balloon when she wakes up - hopefully happy :)

and most importantly...

3. She will have chocolate milk when she gets home

Bikes and BBQ

Jim has been nice enough to help Naveen train for Pablove Across America. It's tough (well, boring) training alone, especially on the longer rides.

Keira was hoping she could go with the boys. She got her helmet.

She even tried to convince Naveen that she could sit on the back of the bike.

We convinced her that it would be more fun to stay home and help us cook. Mary had a new recipe for a broccoli pesto salad. Keira was happy to help!  It turned out super yummy!

It was a lot of fun hanging out, drinking wine, cooking, playing...
and then when Naveen and Jim made it back we got to EAT!

Cookie Time!

When Keira was born a good friend sent me cookie cutters for the letters of her name. It was our first mother/daughter baking experience (not that Keira really remembers it)

I thought it was a fun idea to keep the tradition with Akemi.

I think she looks excited, don't you?!

 Yum!

Clinic Visit + New Neruo-Oncologist

Naveen, Keira and I headed to LPCH this morning for her monthly Clinic Visit.   We figured it would be a longer visit since we also had an appointment with Keira's new Neruo-Oncologist, Dr. Campen, so Akemi spent the morning with Susanna, Oriana and Grayson.  Susanna is going to be taking care of Akemi and her little friend, Cyrus, next school year so this was good practice for both Akemi and Susanna!

Naveen and I were a little worried about what the doctors would say today since K came down with a cough/runny nose this week.  She had a rough night Thursday since her nose was so stuffy and it was hard for her to get comfortable enough to sleep.  Last time she was sick we were admitted to the Day Hospital for lots of tests which included a poke and the dreaded nose swab.  K promised to be brave if she had to have the swab but we were all hoping she wouldn't need it.

Despite the cough, Dr. Effinger and Dr. Twist thought Keira looked great.  Thankfully, they didn't think Keira needed any additional tests with her cough, but did give us a prescription for another steroid if she doesn't start to improve in the next few days.  We're hopeful we won't need to use it this time.  Everyone also noticed that Keira's cheeks are beginning to slim down from the steroid wean.. she's looking so grown up as a 3 year old!

Keira loves cutting with her scissors and is getting pretty good at staying on the lines.  She wanted to cut out a E, for Dr. Effinger and the doctor was quite impressed with her fine motor skills.  :)

We've also very happy with the progress Keira has made at Physical Therapy over the past two months.  Her static balance is better.  She is still super wiggly and needs reminders to slow down but overall she seems to have a better awareness of her space.  We're going to start spreading out her PT check-in's to 1x per month just so we can keep an eye on her as we continue weaning steroids.

We all agree that she is ready for the next reduction in her steroids, however with the cough, we also agree it would be better to wait another week or two and start the next wean when her body is recovered and healthy.   Healthy, happy thoughts that our sweet girl gets over this cough and handles the next steroid reduction.  We will keep you posted!

Big Basin / Portal Park

Jessie and I loaded up the van and took all four kiddos down to Big Basin to see some BIG trees.

C and her girls          J and her boys

The kids had a blast running along the trail, climbing over the wooden fences and walking on tree trunk balance beams. It's so nice when we can get in Keira's PT out in nature. :)

On the way home we stopped at Portal Park for some playground time.

Keira's 3rd Birthday

Our little girl is THREE!

Untitled

We were thrilled to be able to celebrate her special day with all her favorite friends, which included her cousins from Chicago! Jessie and the boys flew out for spring break this year and we were lucky that it coincided with Keira's birthday at the park.

Untitled

Even luckier yet, Jessie wanted to be sure to secure the title, "Best Aunt Ever" and made Keira an amazing "Brown Bear Cake."

Capitola by the Sea

Aiden and Colten were super excited to see the ocean.  Although it was a bit windy, the sun was out so everyone was happy (including Naveen who got to surf!)

Untitled

The kids ran around the beach, dug in the sand, collected rocks and eventually were brave enough to play "chase the waves" which of course ended with three wet and sandy kiddos.

  Untitled

After a quick change of clothes we stopped at the pub for some fish and chips before everyone fell asleep.

  everyone is asleep!

 What a fun filled day!

Little Stompers - Spring Performance

We are always impressed with all the songs and moves that the children learn for these performances. Keira is quite enthusiastic about the songs and knows the words... now she just needs to learn how to sing, not shout. :)

We also thought that K did a good job with her speaking part.
In case you need a translation she says, "The next song is about friendship."

Farm Fieldtrip

Keira and I joined her Little Stompers friends at McClellan Ranch today and we had a blast!

It was a little chilly this morning but we enjoyed learning about and touching some reptiles before heading outside for a walk around the farm.

Keira and Bryce were partners on the walk and Bryce did a great job keeping track of K.

The animals were a big hit as you would expect and Keira even got a kiss from a pony.
