Mothers & Daughters Playdate

Keira and I enjoyed catching up with Stacey/Alexis and Jamie/Maya. The six of us (plus Zoe), went on a walk, drank coffee, ate empanadas, and just hung out. It is amazing how quickly kids grow up. When I first met Jamie, Maya was 2 and now she is 10. And little Alexis (born last May) has already celebrated her first year! Before we know it, Keira will be off to kindergarten.

K's First Birthday Bash

Well, it's not exactly Keira's Birthday, but her big buddy Krishna's. The whole gang headed to the Yerba Buena Rooftop Playground to help celebrate Krishna's 3rd birthday. As an added treat for the kids we were able to visit the local fire station (the 5th busiest in the nation as we learned). The weather was beautiful and the kids had a blast. Plus it was Keira's first birthday party and she was all dressed up for the occasion.

Little Penguin

Keira has been a part of the Galapagos Village all year, however she finally made it down to meet the kids on Tuesday, June 2nd. We thought it would be fun to see the kids and hang out at the Volunteer Brunch. Keira was having so much fun at school that we ended up staying all day. We also met the village at the Oakland Zoo on June 18th for the final fieldtrip of the year. Grandma and Great Grandma were in town so they were able to join us for a fun day.

Grandma & Great Grandma in SF

Grandma and Great Grandma came out to SF for a visit. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time hanging out together in the city. Keira loved all the extra love and attention she recieved fro her grandmothers. She was also quite entertaining with all her new tricks - she smiles easily and makes all sorts of fun noises. As an added bonus, Grandma brought out Aiden's Rainforest Activity Gym which is now one of Keira's (and Nip's) favorite toys.

Four Generations in Yosemite

My birthday was extra special this year. Not only am I now a mother, I was lucky enough to have my mom and grandma in town to help me celebrate.

Naveen thought it would be fun for us to take a weekend trip up to Yosemite. This would be K's first weekend away from SF as well as her first time to Yosemite. As many of you know, Yosemite has always been a special place for us and we try to make it up to the park at least once a year, but this trip meant sharing our special place with my daughter and family.

The quick details: California Farm Belt, Sierra Foothills, Giant Sequoia Groves, Mighty Yosemite Valley, Tioga Pass at 10,000ft, Fish Taco in the Nevada Desert, and 571 total miles.

We drove up Friday morning stopping at In and Out for lunch and arriving at Mariposa Grove in late afternoon. We did a little walking through the grove of Sequoia trees. Keira was wearing her "Tree Hugger" onesie, very appropriate, and everyone was in awe of these giants. That evening we headed to the town of Mariposa for a good night's sleep (Keira slept for 9 hours in a row!)

Saturday included a morning latte and muffin at Pony Expresso and then lots of good views from the car as we drove through the park. We stopped in Wawona for a bit of history, touring the Wawona Village and chatting with the blacksmith. We then drove up to Glacier Point. The weather was a bit cool and foggy giving Yosemite a mystical feel. Our drive back was just as magical. We stopped at Bridveil Falls on the way out and spent our evening in the town of Mariposa.

After another good night's sleep (K again slept through the night) we took an alternative route to Yosemite Valley. We walked through the meadows and stopped for a drink at the Ahwahnee Lodge. Rested and ready to go, Great Grandma wanted to walk up to Yosemite Falls. K was a bit difficult, requiring a backcountry diaper change as well as some b-feeding at the falls. We survived and started our journey back to the Bay Area, choosing to take the longer route through Tuolumne Meadows. We stopped at the Tioga Gas Mart (yes, a gas station, with looming mountains on one side, the Nevada desert on the other, and amazing food...only in California) for dinner and then drove over Sonora Pass. Keira was such a trooper with all the driving and is certainly on her way to becoming a lover of road trips (we hope!)

We arrived back at home late and exhausted but what a fabulous way to spend my 31st birthday!

Sunday Streets San Francisco

Sunday Streets creates a safe, fun, car-free place for people to get out and get active in San Francisco neighborhoods. Naveen, Keira and I enjoyed spending our Sunday exploring the Mission. It was fun to see just how many of our fellow Mission neighbors have kids too!

Keira & Soraya

Keira and I drove down to San Jose for another fun day with Glory and Soraya. We were also able to see Soraya's grandma, Anna, as she was in town visiting. The girls are both growing up so fast!

Beer Chalet and SF Conservatory

So I've been very lazy with the updates, but that doesn't mean that we haven't been out and about. You'll see that I'm back-dating this post to reflect the actual date that it should have been sent out on :)

we made it...yay

The last weekend of May was filled with some hiking adventures in and around San Francisco. We headed up north over the Golden Gate for a fun hike from Muir Woods to the Tourist Club, aka the 'Beer Chalet'. This is an alpine style lodge that's located atop a hillside overlooking Muir Woods where one has to hike (ok, you can drive if you're weak sauce) to get to. Once there, you will be rewarded with fantastic vistas, cool people, and an even cooler selection of fine German Beer on tap.

On Sunday, the weather was a bit gloomy, so we headed over to the San Francisco Conservatory in Golden Gate Park to check out some flowers in bloom and see another part of San Francisco that we would have never had thought to go to if it weren't for the little one. Enjoy the pics...
